Treatments
Our aim is to help you to control your oral hygiene and therefore, in time, help you to reduce the number of hygiene appointments necessary.
Our hygienists work closely with our dentists to provide tailored care to your individual needs.
They play an important role in dental health care, and are mainly concerned with gum health and showing patients the correct home
care.
The hygienists’ main role is to professionally clean teeth for patients. This is usually called scaling and polishing. However,
perhaps the most important role of our hygienists is to show each patient how to keep their own teeth free of plaque. Hygienists also
give advice on diet and preventing dental decay. Not all practices have a hygienist, but we offer this service to our patients using
four part-time hygienists. Hygienists can now work when a dentist is not present in the practice, as long as the patient has been seen
by the dentist and the treatment has been prescribed.
Our hygienists can help you to prevent dental disease by carefully removing the deposits that build up on teeth (tartar) and teaching
you how to prevent it reforming again. This will assist in preventing the progress of gum disease.
Regular visits and advice will help you to build confidence in maintaining your own oral care and achieving a healthy mouth.
Our dentists also carry out this type of treatment, however we do recognise that the hygienist has been specially trained to carry
out treatment and can spend longer with you.
It is unlikely that you find scaling and polishing uncomfortable, but if you do our hygienists can use some local anaesthetic.
It is important that you let your hygienist know at the time so that they can make your visit more relaxed.
Each patient’s hygiene visit is booked at 30 minute intervals, although this time does include stringent cross-infection controls that
are necessary between each patient and are critical to maintain the very high standards set within the practice.
All patients are different and some patients have no clinical need to see a hygienist. Patients are routinely seen twice a year and
some patients need additional appointments. You can discuss any concerns you have regarding how often you need to attend with your
dentist or with our hygienist.
Cost per treatment £45.00
How you can help yourself
You can do a great deal to help yourself and the hygienist as you are in control of your mouth between visits.
Our hygienists will instruct you how to remove plaque with a toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and will show you how to effectively
use dental floss, tape or Tepe brushes.
Our hygienists will recommend the best oral care products for you and we have a comprehensive and competitive range available for
you to purchase at the practice should you wish to do so.
